Invincible - A literary analysis

Salutations Readers. Today I'm going to analyze one of my favorite comics, Invincible. This is a more adult take on the classic superhero tropes. After the comic goes on it deviates further an becomes its own special series with fantastic characters.

Our main character, Mark Grayson, is 17 at the start of the series. He knows his dad, Nolan Grayson, is the world's strongest superhero, Omni Man. He spent his entire life wanting to be just like his dad, anxiously awaiting the day he got his super powers. One day when taking out the trash, he threw a trash bag into space. Now with his new found powers, he has to balance school and taking down villains on the side.

Mark Grayson trains with his dad, eventually taking on the name, Invincible. He takes down dangerous villains but when his dad tells him the truth about where his people come from, he encounters his strongest villain yet. His dad tells him that he's not human, that his people are aliens from the planet named Viltrum. Nolan was sent to earth to learn more about it's people and eventually conquer the planet. He wants Mark to join him but when Mark refuses, it breaks out into an all out battle between father and son.

Nolan eventually beats mark to the brink of death, leaving him to die in a pile of rubble. I really like the character arcs between Nolan and Mark. I highly suggest you go read this comic series. Their characters develop way more later on in the story so if you want a long and interesting comic with great art to read, you can check it out from Uni's library.

Thanks for reading, Madden

  1. I've seen this book but have never thought of reading it. I started to stop reading comics as much due to the basic plot they tended to have. Now that you say that they actually have character development, I might read it. Thanks for the great reveiw!
