Hi,
For
my book of the third cycle, I read The Firm by John Grisham. Someone who
had watched a movie based on the book recommended it to me. The book was very
interesting and there were many twists throughout the story that kept enticing
the reader. I especially appreciated how the author wrote the characters with
lots of details and the scenes felt very well planned out. It was also
interesting to learn about all of the different lawyer things throughout the
book because it was about a law firm.
The book is about a lawyer, Mitchel McDeere, who has recently graduated highly in his class from Harvard and is hired by a firm. The firm that he chose was Bendini, Lambert, & Locke, which is a quiet, small firm that has around 40 lawyers that are very good and paid the best in the country. When lawyers join, they are associates, who work very long hours for their pay. Then, they become “partners” who are millionaires after some years. However, the firm has many secretes and the money must have come from somewhere. An FBI agent calls on McDeere and tries to expose some sketchy aspects of the firm to him.
I would give this
book a 6/10 and I would recommend it to anyone who has read similar books in
the past and enjoys the genre of mystery and action. If anyone has watched the
movie, it may also be interesting to read. The author wrote the book by separating the chapters into different sections and focusing on different characters. This kept the chapters from feeling too repetitive. The book was interesting, however
there were some weird scenes and I felt that the story was drawn out and could
have concluded earlier.
Thanks for reading,
Thomas Ballard
I loved reading John Grisham's novels, and some of my favorites are Pelican Brief and The Runaway Jury. After reading the books, I watched both of their movies. I suggest doing the same too.
ReplyDeleteHi Tom, I think being a lawyer is a very interesting job, so a book with a lawyer as the main character sounds fun and interesting to read. Also have you watched the movie and how does it compare to the book? Great job overall
ReplyDeleteThis book seems pretty interesting. I like how the author splits the chapters out to make it not so repetitive. I do not like repetitive books. With the drawn out scenes, were they interesting to start out or was the scene not needed at all?
ReplyDeleteFound this blog after Darshan's and this book sounds just as good. For some reason books that involve government, like this one with lawyers and the FBI, are all interesting. Sad to see you gave the book a 6/10, but I still might check it out.
